Arlene B. Williams, 90 of Luzerne, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in Allied Services Hospice Center, with her family by her side.
Born in Luzerne, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Genevieve Benson. She was a graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1952. A strong woman of faith, she was a long-standing and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Luzerne.
Arlene was married to the love of her life, Hugh, for 67 years. They met as high school sweethearts and together raised three daughters and played a significant part in the lives of their five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a strong role model for her girls, always demonstrating strength in times of adversity, unwavering love and support and a listening ear for all of life’s celebrations and sorrows.
Arlene began her career at bell telephone and later left to raise her daughters. She subsequently was employed by the Social Security Administration for over twenty years, retiring in 1998.
More of Arlene’s full-time employment was walking alongside her husband Hugh through the various organizations that he was involved. Forever his strong anchor, she provided companionship and guidance to fulfill many of Hugh’s interests. Through these organizations, Arlene and Hugh found many significant friendships along the way. Many who became like family celebrating the weddings of their daughters, births of their grandchildren along with many milestone birthdays.
Arlene is survived by her daughters, Kathy Evans (David), Kim Williams (Michael) and Amy Lahart (Charles). Arlene, fondly known as Nana to her grandchildren Larry, Jimmy, Erin (Nick), Zachary (Makaylea) and Gavin was the one to provide a great love of card games, walks in her yard and many, many fun times on the patio. New and recent blessings in her life were great-grandchildren Hope and Reece Attanasio. We will continue to keep her memory alive, telling them stories of all she was to all of us.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. from Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 in Holy Family Parish. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 at the funeral home.
