Charles J. Urban

Charles J. Urban, 81, of Luzerne, passed away on December 10, 2025 at his home. He was born in Luzerne on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The son of the late Charles and Eleanor Urban.

He was a graduate of Luzerne High School and a life long resident of Luzerne. During the 1972 flood he worked with Wilbur’s boats and aided and rescued people trapped by the water.

In 1973 he proudly joined the Luzerne Police Force and rose through the ranks. He retired as the Chief of Police, serving 28 years in the borough he loved.

In his more active days he enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things nature. When he wasn't outside he could be found tinkering away in his work room or delving into his favorite shows and conspiracy theories. Star Trek, Aliens and all things Big Foot.

A true lover of dogs, he was known to bring home several strays. No dogs topped his list more than his beloved Leroy and Jake. We are sure he is happy to be reunited with them. 

Surviving are his wife of 46 years Elaine Urban; daughters Jodi L. Miller and husband Dominic, Luzerne, and Jill Moran and husband Patrick, Swoyersville; grandchildren, Atticus and Killian Moran; sister Linda Six, Worthington, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his constant shadow, Shelby.

Charlie was loud, funny, strong, moody, a little bit crazy, a jack of all trades and truly larger than life.  If you knew him you were lucky, and to know him was to love him.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Ltd., 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne. Private interment services will be held in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Lehman.

In lieu of flowers a contribution in his name to SPCA would be appreciated.
