Bernard A Barry III, 59, of Luzerne passed away on Sunday January 26,2020 at his home. He was born October 29, 1960 in Jersey City NJ a son of Bernard and Francis Barry. He attended school at Wyoming Valley West and was an Army veteran. After finishing the first part of his military career in Washington DC, Bernard moved back to NEPA to start his civilian life. Armed with only his culinary skills, he became the executive chef of multiple restaurants, clubs, and other establishments. Always having the itch to serve his country, Bernard joined the 109th National Guard where he would proudly serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004 and continued to serve home in the National Guard until retiring in 2008 with over 20 years of decorated military service. He was a member of the Swoyersville American Legion, Post 644 and enjoyed the outdoors and playing his guitar. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Barry; sister, Frances Moran; stepchildren; R.J. and Leah. Surviving are his sons, Bernard A. Barry IV and wife Angel, Jason Barry and companion Nina, and stepdaughter Shannon Chiverella and husband Shane. His sisters Janet Heacock, Linda Whitehead, and Kathy Gust. Lifelong friend and former wife Joanne Barry, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may come Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne. Interment with military honors will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.
