Elizabeth Charnitski

Elizabeth “Betty” Romanoski Holup Charnitski, 92, entered eternal rest on Friday, February 27, comforted by the presence of her loving family.

Born in Edwardsville, she lived in Luzerne for nearly the last 50 years of her life. Alifelong devout Catholic, she was a member of Holy Family Parish in Luzerne. Over thedecades she worked as a home decorator, seamstress, and caterer. You might often findher at the bingo hall (where she met the love of her life) or the family card table playingPitch. While her amazing food, homemade with love, especially her famous pierogies,will be missed by all, it is her kindness, wisdom, sense of humor, resilience, and unconditional love that those who knew her will find it most difficult to live without.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Romanoski and Eleanor St. John Romanoski Woycheck, her siblings Stanley Romanoski, Jr, Joan Callahan, TeresaBroody, and her beloved husband Joseph Charnitski.She is survived by her sisters Eleanor Barsh, Patricia Tomascik, Irene Sokolowski andbrother-in-law Daniel Sokolowski. 

The legacy she leaves behind includes her children,Dr. John Holup and his wife Janette Holup (Franklin Lakes, NJ), Angela Holup(Kingston), Patrice Holup and her husband Raymond Rondinella (Luzerne), andJoseph Charnitski Jr and his wife Gislaine Fukumori (Ossining, NY), her grandchildrenBrittany Dunn and her husband Michael Dunn, Rhayanin Deibert and her husbandJoshua Deibert, Zandi Holup, and Tristan Holup, and the bright shining light of the lastfew years of her life, her great-grandson Kayden Deibert.

A memorial mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m., Saturday March 14, at Holy FamilyParish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne.
