Helen M. (Mimi) Sweetra, 89, of Kingston, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at her home. She was born April 12, 1931 in Scranton, daughter of the late Adam and Anna Andruskevich. She attended Scranton schools and graduated from Scranton Technical School. She lived most of her life in Kingston. Helen worked in the garment industry and was formerly employed at Leslie Fay. She was an excellent seamstress. Helen was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and it’s Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid reader her entire life. She was also fluent in Lithuanian, both reading and writing, and corresponded with relatives in Lithuania for many years. She loved pets and took care of many stray cats in the area. Helen enjoyed gardening and also liked to cook and bake. Deeply loved by her family and friends, she will be sadly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sweetra; sons, Robert Sweetra, Jr. and Anthony Sweetra; sisters Tillie Sabol, Ann Butnor, brother Joseph Romanauskas. Surviving are her brother, Anthony Andruskevich and his wife Anna Mae, Scranton; one niece, several nephews, and close family friend Jeanne Cooper, Kingston. The funeral will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. from Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Ltd., 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Parish. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
