James P. West

James P. West, of Shavertown, passed peacefully into eternal life on March 21, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown following a brief illness. He was born in Wilkes-Barre a son of the late John and Anna West. A 1959 graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School he entered the Air Force in 1960 and served until 1964.

He attended Penn State University and Mansfield University and received a Masters degree from Bloomsburg University. Mr. West was a teacher for the Tunkhannock Area School District for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of both the Dallas American Legion, Post 672 and Kingston V.F.W., Post 283. He also belonged to the Harveys Lake Rod and Gun Club, National Rifle Association, and the Factoryville Sportsman Club where he was an instructor for over 20 years. He was an avid sportsman and loved Penn State.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael, Bernard, Arnold West.

He will be missed by his wife and the love of his life, Colleen. They recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary, and he often called her “Angel Wings’.

Private funeral services were held.
