Dolly

June 22, 1937 — August 22, 2022

Marcella “Dolly” Mazaika Marcella A. (Nevadonski) Mazaika, wife of the late Felix Mazaika, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 22, 2022. Dolly lived 85 wonderful years as a life-long resident of Luzerne. She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society and was formerly employed in the garment industry at Carmen Dress. She also worked at Chuck’s News Stand and most recently until her retirement, at the Convenient Food Mart, Luzerne. Dolly was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Nevadonski. She was preceded in death by her brothers Valaras and John Nevadonski, and her sister Irene Bruno. She is survived by her sister Maryann O’Gorman, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dolly loved her family, and is survived by daughter Donna Piekanski (wife of the late Charles Piekanski), daughter Veronica Kneal and husband David, son Thomas Mazaika and wife Eve, and daughter Angela Mazaika. Dolly’s best life was “the Grandma Life” and she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren: David Kneal Jr., and his wife Jenny and daughter Eliana; Kory Kneal and his fiancée Traci Brown; Joshua Kneal; Asher Mazaika and his wife Veronica; Gage Mazaika; Tessa Mazaika and her boyfriend Jason DeGraw; Charlie Piekanski and his wife Rebecca, daughter Amelia and son Charles Joseph. Friends may call Friday, August 26, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Ltd., 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennet Street, Luzerne. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Lehman. Dolly had a kind heart, always wore a smile, and her fun, flirty personality made others smile too. Dolly loved the color purple, so we ask that if you plan on joining the family for the viewing or the funeral mass, please wear something purple in honor of Dolly. Dolly asked that the Department of Veterans Affairs be recognized for supporting her in her time of need, and for the care arranged and provided for her late husband Felix. The family would like to thank Pathways Healthcare, Kingston, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, for the kind and compassionate care provided to Dolly. Our family cannot fully express our feeling of gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart; from the moment of admission to the end of her journey, the level of care, kindness, compassion, and support was beyond all expectations, simply phenomenal. Dolly requested that flowers be omitted. In lieu of flowers a donation, in memory of Marcella A Mazaika may be made to the following: Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510, Attention: Michael Catalano, Director of Inpatient Services Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Inc., 1013 Mumma Road Suite 203, Wormleysburg, PA 17043
