Michael F. Cunius, Sr.

Michael F. Cunius Sr., 71, of Swoyersville, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Commonwealth Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Luzerne on February 12, 1952 a son of the late Frank and Ann Marie Sullivan Cunius.

For many years, he worked alongside his brothers, John (Pee Wee) and Frank, at Cunius Brothers Woodworking and Restoration and Quality Wood Products. Their primary focus was the construction and restoration of pews, altars, iconostasis, and other church furniture throughout the country.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rushton Cunius; brother, John (Pee Wee) Cunius; sister Margaret Sharp.

Surviving are his son Michael; brother, Frank and his wife Mary Ellen; along with many nieces and nephews, including Christine, John, Ann Marie, Eddy, Frank, Greg, Joe, Lauren, Susan, and Tim.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Ltd., 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne. Services will be conducted by Rev. Michael Evans. Interment will be in St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9-10 a.m. Condolences can be sent to: betzjastremski.com
