Rosalie Jean Guido, 98, of Luzerne, PA passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Kingston Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her great-niece, Annie, by her side. Born Rozalia Gajdos on March 2, 1923 in Luzerne, she was the daughter of Michael F. Gajdos of Dacov, Slovakia and Rose Simko Gajdos of Bridgeport, CT; she lived almost all of her life in Luzerne, with 94 years in the same home. A bright and studious young lady, Rosalie graduated from St. John Nepomucene Slovak grammar school with the highest grades, then was valedictorian of Luzerne High School, Class of 1941. Rosalie graduated with a degree in Chemistry from College Misericordia, Dallas, PA, Class of 1945. She was a supervisor at the Duplan Corporation, Kingston, until her retirement in 1976. A devout Catholic, Rosalie was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and was previously a member of St. John Nepomucene Slovak Catholic Church before the consolidation of the Catholic parishes in Luzerne. She was proud of her Slovak heritage; visiting Slovakia three times; including her family's ancestral villages: Dacov, Velka Lodina, and Mala Vieska; and taking Slovak language lessons well into her 70s. She was a life member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (Zenska Jednota), handling insurance and memberships in the area until 2017. Rosalie had many interests: travel, gardening, furniture restoration, birdwatching, and she enjoyed hiking and camping at World's End, Promised Land, Francis Slocum, and Rickett's Glen State Parks with her family. She is survived by nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved the company of: Rosemary Mosko of Hazlet, NJ; Janice Mosko of Georgetown, DE; Martin Guido of Shavertown; John Mosko (Pamela) of Perth Amboy, NJ; Thomas Guido of Millsboro, DE; Mark Guido of Nanticoke; and Deacon David (Jane) Guido of Vicksburg, MI; as well as great-nieces/nephews: Susan "Suzie," Ann "Annie," Sara, Lisa, Katherine "Katie," Jonathan, Alexander who is studying for the priesthood as Brother Joseph with the Philadelphia Oratory, and Elizabeth. She also has great-great-nieces/nephews Lance, Macy, David, and Lucy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Helen T. Guido Mosko and John Mosko of Perth Amboy, NJ, and brother and sister-in-law, Bernard B. Guido and Wilma Guido of Luzerne, as well as her nephew, Michael Guido of Hanover Township, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish on Bennett St. in Luzerne at 10 am Saturday, with interment at St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Courtdale. Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home.
